Polo history.
Polo is a game of Central Asian descent. It was first advertised in Persia (Iran) from the 6th century to the 1st century BC. At first, Polo was a training game for cavalry troops (usually the king’s guard or other elite troops). For a militant member of the tribe, this is a miniature battle, they played a party of a faction up to 100 games.
Over time, polo became a Persian national sport widely participated by nobles.
Site size
The regular polo field length is 300 yards × 160 yards. The total area is equivalent to the size of 6 football fields. Many grasses are used, and like golf, many researches are developing special hybrids. Around the field is a short wooden frame called a plank. The horse and rider may jump out of the board during the game, but if the serve is made, it will be out of range and the game will stop.
Polo field Lighting system design
Because the area is too large, we generally recommend using light poles over 30 meters to design on both sides of the site. Of course, some venues can only build light poles at the four corners because of location restrictions. Such venues have very high requirements for lamps, because the distance between the poles and the center of the venue is too far. More than 95% of the lamps on the market cannot achieve effective lighting. The resulting effect is that the center of the polo field is very dark. Only our series of lamps below the green LED can achieve a design balance because we use secondary optics light-emitting technology. The central light intensity can be 3 times stronger than that of ordinary LED.
Polo field lighting level distinction
The polo field lighting level is actually the same as that of the football field. For general entertainment activities, we would suggest a design of around 200lx. If there is a very formal level of competition requirements, we would recommend 500lx. Too dark lighting environment is very dangerous for athletes. Because if the visual effect of the horse is affected, accidents are prone to occur in severe racing situations. If unprofessional lighting fixtures are used on the polo field, they will also have a bad effect. Because the glare of those lights exceeds the standard for sports fields. It will directly affect the horse’s eyes, and even make the horse feel uncomfortable and go crazy. Moreover, those lights cannot be reasonably used in the sports field, which further wastes cost and energy consumption. So looking for Green Light LED is the right investment.
International Competitions
The first international competition was held in 1886, when the United States failed to challenge the British style, and then the undisputed world polo leader, the Westchester Cup. England successfully defended the cup in 1902, but the United States won in 1909. The cup won nine more games (the last time was in 1939), and the Americans won the championship except in 1914. The next international conference was in 1971. The United States defeated England and held a coronation cup every year since then, in a single game instead of three.
After 1909, the style of the game changed from a relatively slow English game to one characterized by short, controlled shots. American polo players have used a long-lasting, fast-moving, full-open style that completely changed the sport. The rules of the two countries were eventually absorbed. The United States adopted English rules, allowing players to hook the opponent’s stick with a mallet, while English gave up the offside rule, which prohibits players from kicking in front of the ball.
From 1909 to 1950, the United States was among the best in polo. In the 1920s and 1930s, polo was played in Argentina. In 1928, the first America’s Cup (America’s Cup) was a contest between the United States and Argentina. Since then, Argentina has become the undisputed master of international polo. Polo became a national competition in Argentina, with more than 60,000 spectators. Commercially sponsored international competitions (mainly in Boca Raton, Florida) were held in the 1970s, and the European Championships were held in 1980.
